Project Description

Not content simply to refurbish, the owner of this 1928
Craftsman-style house wanted to build, from its shell, a classic
bungalow. Architect Michael Klement and contractor Bruce Curtis didn’t
disappoint, creating what one judge called "a total environment" that
embodies authentic period style in every detail.

The new, beautifully proportioned front porch features clustered
and cross-tied rectangular columns atop boxed column bases. New
Arts-and-Crafts-style windows and roof brackets add to the authentic
feel.

Inside, inexpensive, surface-applied, oak-veneered, 1/4-inch
plywood and 1-by trim boards effectively re-create traditional
three-quarter-height solid-wood paneling. A glass-paned front door and
period-style fixtures and wallpaper add to the historical feel.
