Beginning on Friday, Oct. 13, the U.S. Postal Service will be selling stamps depicting the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC), which opened just over a year ago in Washington, D.C. Designed by Freelon Adjaye Bond/SmithGroupJJR—a partnership between the Freelon Group (now Perkins+Will), Adjaye Associates, Davis Brody Bond, and SmithGroupJJR—the museum has been visited by roughly 3 million people since its opening. “It’s been incredible to see the impact this museum has had on our nation,” said Perkins+Will’s Zena Howard, AIA, senior project manager on the NMAAHC, in a press release. “To know that it’s now the iconic face of an American postage stamp that will be seen by the eyes of millions more people around the world is both electrifying and humbling.” A ceremony for the Celebrating African American History and Culture Forever stamp is scheduled for Friday morning at the museum.
