Erica Cochran Hameen
Dr. Erica Cochran Hameen, Assoc. AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, is the incoming director of diversity, equity, and inclusion, the co-director of the Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics, the track chair of the doctor of professional practice program and the architecture, engineering, and construction management doctorate program, and an assistant professor at Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to joining CMU, Dr. Cochran Hameen designed more than 50 educational, media and broadcast, residential, community, and transportation facilities. She holds multiple honors, including the New Pittsburgh Courier Women of Excellence award and an AIA Diversity Recognition Program award for CMU’s UDream program.
Dr. Cochran Hameen holds a B.Arch. from Virginia Tech, an M.S. in sustainable design, and a Ph.D. in building performance and diagnostics from CMU. She leads national efforts focused on equitable sustainability, occupant health and productivity, indoor environmental quality, energy policy, energy efficiency, and design equity. She has taught more than 35 undergraduate and graduate level courses, advised more than 100 built-environment graduate students, authored more than 70 publications, and received multiple team project recognitions by the White House during the Obama administration. A frequent invited guest speaker, she has led architecture- and diversity-focused programs and fundraising initiatives and served as the lead or co-principal investigator on energy research funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Defense.
