Picked from six shortlisted projects, Hastings Pier by London firm dRMM Architects won this year's Stirling Prize from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). The annual prize recognizes "Britain's best new building," and last year was awarded to Newport Street Gallery by Caruso St John Architects. Hastings Pier also won the people's vote this year. The jury was comprised of chair and RIBA President Ben Derbyshire; Anupama Kundoo of India-based studio Anupama Kundoo Architects; Peter St John, cofounder of Caruso St John Architects; Evan Davis, a journalist and BBC presenter; and Jane Hall, a founding member of London collective Assemble.

"Hastings Pier is a masterpiece of regeneration and inspiration," Derbyshire said in a press release. "The architects and local community have transformed a neglected wreck into a stunning, flexible new pier to delight and inspire visitors and local people."
