This week, we're sharing projects from Kenya to Boston, Alabama, and Seattle, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we cover in detail, we highlight work that architecture firms share with us every day through Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of ARCHITECT's website. To date, we have more than 16,000 projects.

"The all-electric building will further reduce carbon emissions as the Chicagoland grid continues its transition to all-renewable fuel sources by 2035. High-efficiency building systems will be installed in anticipation of a future rooftop-mounted photovoltaic array that accommodates the building’s entire energy load."

"The building takes inspiration from the towering mounds built by termite colonies in the region. Tall ventilation towers create a stack effect to naturally cool the main working spaces by extracting warm air upwards, while fresh air is introduced through specially designed low-level openings."

"The 38-unit project includes six studios, 21 one-bedroom [apartments], and 11 two-bedroom apartments. The project reconsiders the concept of replacement housing and neighborhood catalyzation by including outreach to artists to be included in the tenant mix."

"The design employs systems and technologies even beyond LEED standards that will increase the fresh air exchange, provide fine-tuned environmental controls allowing for natural ventilation and daylighting. Additionally, the building has been designed to harvest and reuse rainwater for green roof irrigation."

"The three-story building will include collaborative office space, both formal and informal auditoriums, 'collision spaces' for impromptu learning encounters, and specialized training spaces including a kinetic cyber range and a virtual reality classroom for agents to test and apply their skills and tools in real-world settings."

"Honoring the past and looking to the future, the building’s brick façade respects its larger historic context, while modern construction technology allows for maximizing both transparency and energy efficiency—emphasizing daylight, views, and the college’s forward focus."

An Lac, Seattle
Runberg Architecture Group

"Chosen to reinforce a unique sense of place, the project’s design was inspired by the 'tube houses' found in cities across Vietnam, narrow residential buildings distinctive for their variety of window styles and balconies."

The Fields, Tigard, Ore.
Otak Architects

"A key decision in meeting the challenge of the location’s steep hillside was to cut into the slope so that all the units could have daylight and views. The buildings are four-story with three having bridges to an upper parking area."

Loose Fit, Boston
CO-G

Located in Boston's Seaport District, Loose Fit is a pavilion installation inspired by New England's staple cedar shingles and the trend of loose fitting jeans. The interactive structure comprises 80 "puffy shingles," each stuffed with recycled denim to act as insulation, and a layer of shredded foam that "wraps the pavilion in a chromatic speckling," according to a project description from the firm. Read more about the project, which was designed and fabricated by ARCHITECT Next Progressive firm CO-G, here.
