This week, we're sharing projects from China to Spain, Beirut, and Seattle, with several stops in between. In addition to the projects that we cover in detail, we highlight work that architecture firms share with us every day through Project Gallery, the user-generated portion of ARCHITECT's website. To date, we have nearly 16,000 projects.

Snow Beer Factory Redevelopment, Shenzhen, China
Aedas
"Aedas has transformed the industrial town into an 873,201-square-meter beer-themed city block that incorporates high-rise office and residential towers, research and development centers, factories and breweries, as well as an experiential retail village."

Civic Hotel, Seattle
Wittman Estes
"The renovated lobby features a new glass staircase with floating Douglas fir treads which bring guests to the upper level guest rooms. A new 1,000-square-foot ground level meeting room and event space can be partitioned into smaller rooms with sliding panels, or open up for one large event."

J Linea, Washington
Hickok Cole
"Made from artisan Danish-imported brick, J Linea’s angular form integrates preserved portions of the original century-old façade and maximizes the building’s usable square footage by stepping back and inward in deference to the existing façade."

Beirut Sea Port 'Phoenix' Design Proposal, Beirut
ArmanArchitecture
"Part of the existing sea port is relocated to the east, to allow for the front 'Sea Face' of Beirut to become a landmark coastline. The vast area thus reclaimed for the development becomes an apolitical, nonreligious parallel spine to Beirut's old city, where indeed one can can walk without fear from one end of the city to the other."

Villa Harald, Kampala, Uganda
Selim Senin
"These four-unit masses, which have a fragmented architecture on the entrance façade, are connected to each other by the ceiling slab canopy of the mass, providing architectural integrity in four mass spaces."

Velo House, Valencia, Spain
Raul Garcia Studio
"The volumes harmonize with each other, forming an 'L' on the ground floor that adopts a certain dynamism on the upper floor through the overhangs and setbacks generated."

Ranch Dressing, Mill Valley, Calif.
Buttrick Projects Architecture+Design
"A series of volumes was inserted at the perimeter of this '60s boomerang plan to remedy the staid quality of the previous interior geometry and make the landscape more tangible from inside."

The Terminal, Houston
Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)
"The flat floor allows for limitless arrangements and complex scenography. The tribune of fixed seats clad in fiberglass grating provides expansive views and—behind and below it—a sheltered space where visitors can gather away from the main act without being completely removed from it, like students hanging out under the bleachers during a homecoming game."

Walk Street House, Hermosa Beach, Calif.
RAS-A Studio
Located in Hermosa Beach, Calif., the two-story, 2,110-square-foot Walk Street House makes efficient use of its tight lot. Designed by the Redondo Beach, Calif.–based RAS-A Studio, this single-family project includes a two-car mechanical lift that limits the impact of automobiles, allowing for a front entry focused pedestrian access. Light spills into the interior through large windows, complementing an open floor plan that enhances its natural ventilation. The Southern California project, recognized in ARCHITECT's 2019 RADA Awards, is also a winner of the 2021 AIA Housing Awards. You can read more about the 2021 AIA Awards here.
