A good design is a good design is a good design, whether it's trying to solve the world's problems or just making a product beautiful. Because if design can't save the world, it can at least make it more attractive to look at, right? London's Design Museum is now showing 90-plus designs from 2012 that run the gamut from life-saving (Olafur Eliasson's Little Sun solar-powered LED means less reliance on kerosene for third-world countries) to the just plain cool (Who can forget Thomas Heatherwick's Olympic Cauldron?). All of the designs are contending for the museum's annual 2013 Designs of the Year, which will be announced on April 17.
