Dwell on Design 2012

This year’s show goes beyond the dwelling to take on the 21st-century lifestyle and what it means to be modern

Dwell on Design returns June 22-24 in Los Angeles to vamp up the dialogue on modern design. Mixing new products, installations, and industry thought leaders, organizers say that this year’s show is reaching outside of the urban dwelling to incorporate all aspects of the contemporary lifestyle.

Visitors can expect more than 70 presentations and 350 exhibitors, along with a few additions. The new Modern Marketplace Pavilions will feature small, independent brands relative to family-, home-, design material-, and artisanal products. Designed by Sebastian Mariscal, the company’s latest show home in Venice, Calif., distorts the indoor/outdoor binary to highlight modern urban design and architecture; scheduled for completion in summer 2012, it will be open for public tours during the show.

Returnees include a child-centric design section, an outdoor-themed pop-up village showcasing a selection of prefab structures (including Inflate’s Airclad, Connect Homes , LivingHomes, and the miniHome by Sustain Design Studio), and tours of modern homes on Los Angeles’ west side.
