Project Description
FROM THE ARCHITECTS:
With the SKUM Pavilion, we were invited to design a mobile structure for three Danish institutions: Tuborg Brewery, Chart Art Fair and ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum. In response to the challenge of creating a permanent structure that is also fully transportable, we drew inspiration from inflatable castles of childhood. SKUM (in English: FOAM) is a bubble-like cloud pavilion that is filled with air powered by two wind turbines. Fully inflated in seven minutes, the idea behind its construction was to plug in and play.
Debuting as the Tuborg VIP bar at Roskilde Festival 2016, the pavilion features a 120 square meter canopy for visitors to relax under its generous shade. Its low-impact construction offers maximum visibility while incurring a minimal environmental footprint. Color-changing LED lights are programmed to illuminate the pavilion during the evenings, providing the warm glow of an enormous nightlight on the festival and museum grounds.
