In November of 2013, the Atlanta Braves baseball team announced that it would be constructing a new stadium that would open by the 2017 season. The following May, the Braves released concept renderings for the project. Kansas City, Mo.–based firm Populous was designing the stadium, and the Venice, Calif.–based Jerde Partnership was designing the master plan. The team broke ground on the stadium, named SunTrust Park, in September of 2014. Alpharetta, Ga.–based firm Wakefield Beasley & Associates was announced as the architect of the mixed-use portion of the development that December.
