As spring turns to summer and sunshine replaces rain, we’re craving all kinds of light. These lamps and luminaires—culled from product launches at the recent International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) and from exhibitors at next week’s Lightfair International, in Las Vegas—combine high output and innovative design to enliven applications spanning nightstands to grocery-store aisles. 

Mori, Rich Brilliant Willing
A web of thin threads supported by a crossed-wire hoop frame and sealed with a matte lacquer creates Mori’s shear, yet durable, fabric-like shade. Introduced at ICFF in New York in May, the LED pendant offers 2700K with a CRI of 80, emulating a cocoon with its muted, warm glow.

Rich Brilliant Willing

GATICA, Tech Lighting
Combining general illumination, wallwashing, and spotlighting, GATICA (General And Task Illumination Controls, Adjustability) is a modular LED lighting system that can be suspended or mounted flush to the ceiling in a 1.3”-deep housing. Light guides on the system’s panels direct 3500K light downward while a strip of LEDs atop the luminaire provide indirect illumination; a tool-free lockable clip allows the panels to be adjusted in 10-degree increments from 20 degrees to 80 degrees. Adjustable LED spotlights at 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K can be integrated with the panels. For use in retail spaces, offices, and museums.

Tech Lighting

Trybeca, Reggiani
In complementary square, round, and rectangular shapes, Reggiani’s Trybeca luminaires can be installed recessed, flush with, or drop-mounted from the ceiling. The dimmable fixtures offer 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K at CRIs of 85 and 93. They are available in a range of sizes, from a 38mm diameter for the round version to a 300mm edge for the square model.


Kerflights, Graypants
Kerf-cut shades made from the Seattle-based studio’s signature recycled corrugated cardboard are supported by powdercoated steel frames for use as pendants, table lamps, and sconces. Launched at ICFF, Kerflight offers reversible shade panels in five shapes and in a variety of colors including white, black, and red-orange. 


Definity Digital, Lighting Science Group
Lighting researchers are combating the growing use of digital devices with blue-light screens, such as smart phones and tablets, with technology designed to keep their users’ circadian cycles in check. Among them are Lighting Science Group’s Definity Digital LED lamps with color temperatures and lumen outputs that are optimized for tasks such as boosting melatonin production, alertness, and plant growth. For instance, the technology for the Awake & Alert lamp (shown) came from the company’s partnership with NASA to develop lighting that would help astronauts manage their circadian rhythms while in space. The series fits E26 bases and includes BR30 and A19 lamp types.

Lighting Science

Fiato, Amerlux
The high-output track and recessed fixture Fiato is designed to illuminate merchandise displays in retail and grocery applications. Offered in 2700K to 4000K and with a CRI of up to 95, Fiato outputs up to 2,400 lumens from a single LED. Designed to function without an active cooling device, the luminaire is fitted with a passively-cooled heat sink and thermally isolated driver in a die-cast aluminum housing. Spot, narrow flood, and flood beam angles are available. 


Index by Neo-Ray, Eaton’s Cooper Lighting
Adjustable optical panels incorporating the company’s WaveStream LED technology are designed to boost ambient light output in office, retail, and educational spaces without increasing power consumption. The wing-like panels on Neo-Ray’s Index can be tilted plus or minus 15 degrees and are available in 2’, 4’, 6’, 8’, and 12’ lengths. Offering more than 95 lumens per watt, the dimmable luminaire is available in 3000K, 3500K, and 4000K.
