Last week, Brown University announced that it selected New York City–based architecture firm REX to design a new performing arts center on the Providence, R.I., campus. The project, which will be located near other existing arts departments, will include a performance hall as well as flexible spaces. The university plans to start "detailed planning" this summer and finish construction by 2020.

REX, led by founding principal and president Joshua Prince-Ramus, AIA, has several arts center projects in its portfolio, including the 2017 ARCHITECT Progressive Architecture Award–winning Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, which is scheduled to break ground next year.
