Mac users, rejoice! Chief Architect Software announced this week that it's newest release, Chief Architect X6 now supports the Mac platform in addition to Windows. "There's been a lot if demand for this compatibility," Scott Harris told products editor Lauren Hunter recently. Harris, vice president of sales and marketing for Chief Architect says "this is big news" for the brand. A pilot group of select users has been using the new product and a full release is scheduled for early 2014 at the International Builders' Show.

“Chief Architect X6 is a really exciting release for our customers," agrees president and CEO Greg Wells. “Not only does the product now run natively on the Mac OS, but we did it in a way that allows you to run on either Windows or Mac with a single license." This means designers that use multiple computers (a desktop at work and a laptop at home, for instance), can install the software on both machines, be they Mac or PC, with just one purchase. However, only one iteration of the software can run at a time.

For the remodeling market, Chief Architect is also integrated with the brand's mobile Room Planner app to make client consultations and creating "as-built" plans easier. The tool allows users to quickly measure and lay out rooms, and then import the file into Chief Architect, saving the step of napkin sketching, Wells says.

Other enhanced tools and advances to existing features include support for dual monitors, faster 3D rendering, and seamlessly integrated green building and energy efficiency tools. Learn about these and a range of other upgrades in the Chief Architect X6 introduction video on the company's website. Chief Architect X6 Premier sells for $2,695 and the Lite & Interiors versions sell for $1,995. The software includes one year of support, upgrades, training videos, and catalog content downloads.
