Four architects recently sketched their concepts of what the energy-efficient house of the future may look like and how it may function for The Wall Street Journal. The newspaper asked them to look ahead by just a few decades rather than 100 years and come up with houses that incorporate advances in technology to improve the way people live in their homes and help resolve our nation’s energy struggles. Contributing architects William McDonough, FAIA, of Charlottesville, Va.-based William McDonough + Partners; Richard A. Cook, AIA, of Cook + Fox Architects, New York City; Rios Clementi Hale Studios of Los Angeles; and Steve Mouzon of Mouzon Design, Miami Beach, Fla., each offered up innovative designs that mimic the regenerative functions of the natural world, incorporate food production, or harness Earth’s natural energies.
