This is the 61st year that AIA Seattle has bestowed its annual Honor Awards for projects designed by a registered Washington architect but built anywhere in the world. From the 140 entries, the three-person jury—Marlon Blackwell, FAIA, Marlon Blackwell Architect, Fayetteville, Ark.; Martin Felsen, AIA, UrbanLab, Chicago; and Jennifer Yoos, VJAA, Minneapolis—selected 19 winners, seven of which are residential projects.
Several of the winning projects and firms are familiar faces to the editors of residential architect. Olson Kundig’s Art Stable won the 2011 residential architect Design Awards (RADA) Project of the Year Award, and the firm is one of our ra50. The Seattle Care Cancer Alliance Patient House by Weinstein A|U Architects + Urban Designers won a 2011 RADA Merit award in the multifamily category. The kitchen and bath from Chadbourne + Doss Architects’ Wood Block residence were featured in our May/June 2011 issue, and previous work by the firm also has won RADA recognition.
