Swinging at the National Building Museum

Back by popular demand beginning May 27 is the National Building Museum’s high-design mini golf event. The museum, based in Washington, D.C., tapped local talent to put together two all-new 9-hole golf courses, each hole designed and built by the city’s leading architects, landscape architects, designers, and contractors. The courses will be built inside the museum’s ample, air-conditioned facility, and are optimized for golfers aged 4 and over.

The golf courses will remain open through the summer and offer six “Mini Golf Late Night” evenings when the swinging will continue until 9 p.m. on June 6, June 27, July 11, July 24, August 8, and August 22. The event concludes on Labor Day, September 2, 2013.

In this hole, "Capitol RiverGreen," vertical image panels rise up like buildings in the Capitol Riverfront and Yards neighborhood. Stroll around the golf hole to see the vision come together in this rapidly developing part of Washington, D.C., located between the U.S. Capitol and the Anacostia River. Putt your ball along M Street SE, or try for a hole-in-one over the Yards Park sculptural pedestrian bridge. Crowds will cheer when you make it to home plate in the ballpark.

MINI GOLF INFO
What: Two 9-hole indoor, air-conditioned mini golf courses with one-of-a-kind holes created by some of the region’s top architects, construction firms, urban planners, and designers.

Where: 401 F Street NW, Washington, DC 20001; Metro: Red line to Judiciary Square and Yellow/Green lines to Gallery Place- Chinatown.

When: Memorial Day (May 27, 2013) to Labor Day (September 2, 2013) during Museum hours. The Museum will also feature six “Mini Golf Late Night” evenings throughout the summer during which Mini Golf will remain open until 9 pm: June 6, June 27, July 11, July 24, August 8, and August 22.

Who: The course is designed for ages 4 and up.

Cost: $5 per course per person. With purchase of full-price Museum exhibition admission ticket, the price for one course is reduced to $3. Museum members pay $3 per course. Last entry time to play Mini Golf is 4 pm on weekdays unless otherwise noted. Mini Golf ticket sales will end at 3 pm on weekends and holidays. Also available for private rentals.

Participating Design and Construction Teams and Sponsors: The Museum invited firms and individuals to sponsor, design, and construct a hole with the theme of “Building the Future.” Many participants have formed teams with other building industry professionals to make their hole as dynamic as possible. The Museum will present a Best in Show award, determined by a jury of design experts, and players will vote for the People’s Choice award.
