Project Description
General Motors (GM) is developing a first-of-its-kind facility at the automaker’s Technical Center campus that will advance their future in electric vehicles. The Wallace Battery Cell Innovation Center will expand GM’s battery cell technology operations and accelerate the development and commercialization of longer range, more affordable EV batteries.
Ghafari provided full-service design solutions for the two-story building, which will support the manufacturing, testing, and logistics of battery cell production. The design provides for an innovative, flexible facility in a quickly evolving industry. The building’s sleek, dynamic profile draws inspiration from GM’s recent re-brand and new logo while respecting the context of Eero Saarinen’s original Tech Center design. The flexibility and modularity of the building’s integrated design allows for variation and growth through changing times.
This new facility will play a pivotal role in advancing GM’s vision to pave the way for the widespread adoption of EVs, building on more than a decade of advanced battery development.
