Evan Mather packs a lot of history into the 30-minute documentary A Necessary Ruin, his tribute to Baton Rouge, La.'s Union Tank Car Dome (1958–2007). The dome—whose design team included R. Buckminster Fuller and lighting specialist Abe Feder—was the world’s largest free-span structure when it was built; it was razed one year before reaching historic status eligibility.
